I've been enjoying some of the comps from Sundazed Records (www.sundazed.com) Check out their Garage Beat '66 series.

Some of the bands might be a tad obscre for some tastes.

of course the NUGGETS series is the best place to start. (two four cd box sets - NUGGETS of american bands and NUGGETS 2 with brit and foreign bands)

anything PEBBLES, TEENAGE SHUTDOWN, ARF ARF, or PSYCHEDELIC UNKNOWNS are worth getting, too.

Glad you mentioned the PEBBLES series.... on Pebbles Vol 17 is a classic Florida piece - Love So Dear by The Undertakers (from the Orlando FL area) . I've been working for some time now on a book about the Central Florida teen center/garage bands and in the course of doing the book ran into a story I wish I hadn't. I'm trying to help make it a better outcome.

If any of you are familiar with the Undertakers cut I mentioned above (I know some radio stations were playing it when Pebbles 17 was released), here's something you might be interested in.

Bobby Church, lead guitarist of the Undertakers, was striken by polio when he was about 2 1/2 years old. Despite relying on leg braces and crutches, he went on to play in the Undertakers, be a local DJ in the Orlando area and later played with another group called In Cahoots. Bobby is now wheelchair bound and until Memorial Day weekend, lived with his mother. Sadly, she passed away, and we're trying to help him relocate to a residence he can handle by himself on his disability pension.

While going through his mom's stuff, we found a couple of MINT, NEVER PLAYED copies of "Love So Dear" --we've put one up on EBAY in hopes of rasing some money to help him with this move. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this link...it would be a shame if the 60s music fans turned their back on one of the folks who created it.

        The auction link is
        cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Note Bobby will throw in an original Undertakers business card (with photo of the band on the back) and autograph the record for you if you'd like.

At least go take a look -- you'll see the ad for the record, the band picture, etc.

        Thanks!

All of those are great, but sort of tired really (except for Arf Arf). Like a greatest hits of ... or Now This Is Music. How about real obscure killer psych comps like:
Cherrystones Rocks (Finders Keepers)great comp feat. rock & fusion bands from all over the world (Rita Lee, Breakout, Puph,Onyx).
Birds Do It (Diggler) Killer music from German Sex-ed Films that feature 2 tracks performed by Dave Brock of Hawkwind (Way Out & Ealing Broadway. other tracks feature easy listening, and Schoolgirl Report Fuzz Rock)
The In-Kraut (Marina) Hip Shaking grooves from Germany featuring The Boots, Kuno & The Marijuana Brass, France Gall, Memphis Black, Freddy Block, etc.
Turds On A Bum Ride Vol.s 1-6 (Anthology) Killer comps all.
Kraut!Devils!Kraut!- killer kraut rock comp of obscure German psych bands.
Some of the Rubble comps are good, especially "Staircase To Nowhere", "The Clouds Have Groovy Faces", "Nightmares in Wonderland","The Psychedelic Snarl" and "Pop Psych Pipe Dreams". All are Pye related 7" comps from bands that went nowhere. Out of 20 vinyl albums 4 cd's have been issued. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Nuggets exsist. I'm more glad people are digging deeper then the hits of the day. I've also been on vacation from this tribe, but have posted a lot of my records on the album every time I visit. Now get high.

I think that was the idea. nuggets were the hits, so dig deeper and get the PEBBLES. Mostly american bands on those. The stuff Neel is talking about have stuff from all over.

The LOVE, PEACE AND POETRY series has a good selection of international psych and the same hot blonde chick on the cover. I recommend the Turkish, Japanese, Latin American, and Asian volumes..
