You guys have favorite countries?

I got a Turkish psych record in the mail last week, almost busted a nut.. great stuff.

Aside from the usual UK/US/Dutch stuff, I'm particular to middle-eastern psych.. some amazing stuff came out of Lebanon, of all places..

It never ceases to amaze me where some of the best stuff comes from. I'm sure it has a lot to do with bands in those countries being only slightly aware of the current scenes in places like the us and western europe. There's almost no pressure to follow a trend or sound a certain way. I guess in that sense, the music is more pure (if that makes sense).

Totally -- they're free to just "jam", and incorporate their cultural musical influences.

I like how on the more traditional pieces, they use time signatures more common in that part of the world -- usually in a 3 or 6.

Funky time signatures is another thing I'm into -- the Weathervanes have that one tune -- what is it -- 4454, or something -- the song is mostly 4/4, but in the chorus they add another note halfway thru, making it 5/4 -- something like that..

Baris' "2023" knocks me the flock out every time...

Erkin is their equivalent Jimi who lived longer.
While we're in the Middle East, one cannot do without the fabulous OUD stylings of Mssr. JOHN BERBERIAN. For an American group's look at the rhythmic-patter scene, THE ORIENT EXPRESS are a 'don't miss.' Their constituents were not all born in the states at all.
