Interesting link on the history of the genre:
www.history-of-rock.com/garage...nds.htm
"In many ways, the garage bands were the first wave of do-it-yourself punk rockers."
Maybe so, but when I tune into the garage band channel on my satellite dish, they play everything from the Stooges to the Stones, from the Kinks to Dwight Yoakam.

Sun, January 14, 2007 - 11:55 AMIronically, after trying to 'figure out' the Dead for 25 years, Dave Crosby jammed with them long enough to realize "they're just a garage band". Beyond the literal definition, I think the spirit of the genre is that of a neighborhood band with local stars playing music for the immediate community...sometimes gaining the attention of A&R folks..in the case of Bonnie Guitar discovering Little Bill and the Bluenotes and launching NW rock culture... -
